Song choices

Pick songs that compliment your tone of voice, and style. If you have a raspy rock/punk voice you wouldnt pick a celtic or pop song. You know? Think about songs that would go well with your voice.

More tips on singing..

  • Listen to criticism. Weird, I know. If the criticism your getting is constructive, then pay attention to your audience. If you want to better yourself, take their advice into consideration. Remember, though, if they are trying to bring you down deliberately instead of helping to bring you up, then they are not worth the time and energy.
  • Drink lots of water; at LEAST 8 cups a day. water thins and breaks down mucus. Less mucus=better voice.
  • Practice singing in front of a mirror, and watch your jaw for unnecessary movement. If your jaw moves when singing vowels or even singing in general, then you should try and prevent that to produce better sound.

Warm Ups:
Its always a good idea to warm up your voice before you sing. Today I'm going to list some warm up ideas.

Lip trill:lip trill is like blowing bubbles in the water, except there's no water.Do this for the octave of C, and go as high as you can go.

Hum: Hum the octave of C and only go as high as you are comfortable. *REMEMBER to drink lots of water before and after you sing. This helps to keep you hydrated and prevents your voice from straining.

Sing Vowels: Go up and down octaves and sing vowels (can include a consonant at the beginning) Ex/ Ahh, nooo, laaa, zeee, etc.

*Never give up. It can be hard at the beginning but you'll get the hang of it!

Hey! Welcome to my blog about singing. In this blog I will be giving singing advice and tips to help young artists with their singing.
A few tips I'd first like to share with you include:

  • Things you eat before you sing. To make the best sound, avoid things like pizza, milk, ice-cream, chocolate or anything doughy. If you eat these things, your voice tends to glottal more.
  • Breathe from your stomach not your chest. If your shoulders rise when you breathe, you'll know your doing it wrong.
  • Sing from the heart, and don't try to show off or it might come out nasally.(like your nose is plugged.)
I will be posting new tips every Keys class.
